Mentor Text Billy Eliot
Billy Elliot is the story of a young boy who discovers his passion for dance. The film is set in Northern England in the mid-1980s and delves into gender stereotypes, social classes, the 1984 miner's strike, and the use of police violence. Because of its realistic depiction of British people, this is a British social realism film.
The film addresses issues such as gender stereotypes, social classes, and police violence. I chose to include this movie as my mentor text talk because as a performer, you often look up to someone for inspiration, and I strongly believe that this movie is a great inspiration because it shows a little kid named Elliot who discovered a passion for ballet and worked hard to achieve a big goal as he auditioned and was accepted into the Royal Ballet School with little to non-training.
This Movie can teach us that hard work and determination can lead to great things in life and can be applied to our daily lives, as well as show us that you must believe in yourself as a performer regardless of your training or experience.
In conclusion, I highly recommend that you take the time to watch this film because it will give you a new appreciation for dance and for yourself as you work toward your ultimate goal. Furthermore, as a male dancer, this is one of my favorite movies, and it gives me hope to continue my dance education.
